The France Foundation (TFF) is thrilled to announce the launch of an educational program in collaboration with the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA): “Insights Into Advances in Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation–An Online Microlearning Library.” The activities were designed for physicians, advanced practice nurses, physician associates, and nurses in cardiovascular and primary care practices.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in clinical practice, and it comes with an increased risk of deadly cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. There are at least 3 to 6 million people with atrial fibrillation living in the United States, and that number is expected to grow exponentially over time. New approaches are needed to identify individuals at higher risk for AF and to target these patients for preventive and therapeutic management.
In this microlearning library, clinicians will learn about the prevalence and burden of undiagnosed nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) from expert faculty Christian T. Ruff (MD, MPH), Laura VanBrocklin (FNP-DNP), and Jennifer Walker (MSN, RN, ANP-BC). They present three activities designed to improve learners’ diagnostic skills and assist them in identifying at-risk patients using both recommended and advanced screening tools. Learners also discover strategies to develop patient-centric treatment plans.

Working alongside PCNA–the leading nursing organization dedicated to preventing and managing cardiovascular diseases–has been key in developing this education. Their commitment to supporting nurses through complex cases, such as those involving undiagnosed NVAF, is at the heart of this education. It’s our privilege to work alongside them in this program and to highlight the integral role nurses have in cardiovascular disease prevention and management.
