The France Foundation is proud to partner with Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest, most comprehensive Duchenne-specific advocacy organization in the United States, to provide education on gene transfer therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

DMD is a rare genetic disorder largely affecting patients assigned male at birth. Multiple body systems, beyond the neuromuscular and skeletal, are impacted by DMD, and multidisciplinary care is crucial to the diagnosis and management of patients.

The France Foundation has developed a learning opportunity for physicians, nurses, and physician assistants in neurology, pediatrics, and genetics: “Practical Considerations for DMD Management in the Era of Gene Therapy.” PPMD–an organization committed to fighting to end Duchenne–has recently joined us in sharing this education among their own network of professionals.

This module provides learners the opportunity to explore FDA-approved gene therapy, along with other gene therapy treatments, and emphasizes the significance of multidisciplinary care coordination for patients with DMD.

Dr. Aravindhan Veerapandiyan and Dr. Craig Zaidman–pediatric neurologists from two of PPMD's Certified Duchenne Care Centers–demonstrate how to apply gene therapy clinical trial endpoints into real-world patient management scenarios for DMD. They also provide guidance on incorporating both patient and caregiver perspectives into clinical decision-making.

PPMD’s contributions to accelerating research, impacting policy, advancing care, and connecting families have played a crucial role in the fight against the disease since 1994. Together, we are educating practitioners about this rare disease and optimizing patient care by teaching healthcare providers about approved and developing therapies for DMD management.
